Authors @ McMillan - Rick Bie: The Freakin' Destination In-Person
Join us as Rick Bie talks about The Freakin' Destination, his novel about a summer-long hike of the Ice Age Trail. The story is based on experiences that Rick and his wife had on their own multi-year section hike of the Trail. In The Freakin' Destination an empty-nester couple of backpacking neophytes hike the 1,100 miles of Wisconsin’s wondrous Ice Age Trail. This fictional logbook recounts the myriad challenges, mishaps, and triumphs our hikers experience over 10 weeks wandering this rugged, yet often beautiful, terrain. Humorous, sometimes poignant, vividly descriptive of this Badger State treasure.
Rick Bie grew up in Racine, Wisconsin, earned a BA in English at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and spent several decades as project manager in the printing and direct mail industries. He lives with his wife Roberta in Stevens Point, Wisconsin, and is a proud Ice Age Trail Thousand Miler. His IAT section-hike inspired his first novel, The Freakin' Destination.
