Banned Book Club In-Person
Please join other book loving community members for the monthly meeting of the Banned Book Club. We read and discuss books that have been banned and challenged. To learn more about what classifies a book as banned or challenged, check out information from the American Library Association: https://www.ala.org/advocacy/bbooks.
No need to sign up! Copies of each read will be available at the Service desk. Books are on a first come, first serve basis although we make every effort to select books that are readily available in the South Central Library System. Ebooks and audiobooks are also available from Wisconsin's Digital Library / the Libby app.
This month we'll be reading the kid's chapter book Melissa written by Alex Gino.
Summary from LINKcat: "When people look at George, they think they see a boy. But she knows she's not a boy. She knows she's a girl. George thinks she'll have to keep this a secret forever. Then her teacher announces that their class play is going to be Charlotte's Web. George really, really, REALLY wants to play Charlotte. But the teacher says she can't even try out for the part ... because she's a boy. With the help of her best friend, Kelly, George comes up with a plan. Not just so she can be Charlotte -- but so everyone can know who she is, once and for all."
